Job summary

Pointer is offering a Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship in Glasgow, delivered in partnership with Skills for Security. You'll train hands-on with real systems, install, service and maintain CCTV, access control, fire detection and intruder alarms, while learning from experienced engineers.

The programme uses block release at our Glasgow centre, with college attendance and a nationally recognised qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, servicing, and maintenance of CCTV, access control, fire detection, intruder alarms, ANPR, and IP-based technologies.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and maintain safe working practices on site.
  • Listen to instructions from senior engineers and act on them with accuracy and initiative.
  • Safely operate power tools, lift and carry equipment, and work at height using ladders.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, representing the company on client sites.
  • Attend college and complete the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) Apprenticeship.

Job Description

As an apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced engineers to install, maintain and fault-find on the following systems:

  • Assist with the installation, servicing, and maintenance of a variety of systems, including CCTV, access control, fire detection, intruder alarms, ANPR, and IP-based technologies across diverse premises.

  • Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to at all times.

  • Listen carefully to instructions from senior engineers and supervisors, and act on them with accuracy and initiative.

  • Safely operate power tools, lift and carry equipment, and work at height using ladders.

  • Deliver excellent customer service, representing the company in a professional and respectful manner on client sites.

  • Attend college as required and remain committed to successfully completing the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) Apprenticeship.

Training to be Provided

This is where you'll learn the skills that employers actually want.

Your apprenticeship training is delivered by Skills for Security, specialists in fire and security training.

You’ll train through block release at our Glasgow centre, for one week every eight weeks (Tuesday–Friday).

You’ll work towards a Level 3 Fire, Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship, gaining real skills and a nationally recognised qualification.

What you’ll do as part of the programme:

  • Complete a wide range of tasks and projects

  • Build evidence from your job to support your learning

  • Sit annual assessments at the centre
