Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a PMO Technician to join the Programme Management Office within the Highways, Transport and Planning directorate. You will support administration, coordination and planning across a £100m portfolio, managing templates, minutes and reports with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

The role requires strong communication, literacy and numeracy, plus the ability to work with stakeholders and adapt to changing priorities. Hybrid working options are available.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Experience in Highway, Transport and Planning discipline is desirable.
  • Understanding of the purpose and function of a PMO within project delivery.
  • Evidence of delivering a professional service to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Aid the administration, coordination, planning and control of the Highways, Transport and Planning portfolio.
  • Manage and control documents (templates, minutes, reports, plans, schedules) and keep the latest versions accessible.

The opportunity

Salary:£33,673 to £36,581 per annum

Working Pattern:Full time, 37 hours per week.

Contract Length:Fixed term/Secondment until 02/10/2027

Location:County Hall, Chichester with hybrid working opportunities.

Interview: 16th and 19th October at County Hall, Chichester

About The Job

As a PMO Technician, You will be part of the Programme Management Office (PMO) within the Highways Planned Delivery Service, within the Transport and Planning directorate. The PMO oversees in excess of £100m worth of projects, and plays a proactive role in knowledge management to promote programme and project management methods and standards and the implementation of best programme and project management practice.

You will support the PMO team in the administration, coordination, planning and control of the Highways, Transport and Planning portfolio. You’ll manage and control documents such as form templates, meeting minutes, reports, plans and schedules, updating them and ensuring only the latest versions are available to the team.

  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with a range of customers and create effective working relationships. Ability to work with other service professionals to share best practice, knowledge and learning.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to seek and introduce continuous improvement and innovation, for self and team. Ability to embrace change and have the flexibility to respond to the needs of the service.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills in order to analyse and interpret varied and complex information to produce high quality documentation and responses to complex correspondence with minimal guidance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, making sound pragmatic decisions which will have a direct impact on the business / service.
  • Able to demonstrate higher level thinking skills, and be able to make connections between differing situations and see solutions within a wider context.
  • Ability to organise / prioritise work, co-ordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way and meet agreed deadlines which minimise the disruption to the business.
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint (or equivalent packages) for word processing, data processing, report writing, creating enhanced presentations and maintaining computer databases at a high level.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant subject, demonstrating a high level of applied knowledge in researching, analysing and evaluating arguments and information.
  • Experience of working in a Highway, Transport and Planning discipline.
  • An understanding of the purpose and function of a PMO within the delivery of projects.
  • Extensive evidence of delivering an effective, efficient professional service to a range of stakeholders / customers / colleagues.
