Job description

Job Overview:

  • 22 April Start
  • Fulltime, Mon - Fri
  • £165 - £250 per day

The PMLD Teacher will work with students who have profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), supporting them to develop their individual skills and abilities in a safe and nurturing learning environment. The teacher will be responsible for creating and delivering a tailored curriculum that meets the unique needs of each student, ensuring they receive the necessary support for academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement personalized learning programs that are tailored to the needs of students with PMLD, ensuring that all lessons are accessible and engaging.
  • Teaching and Learning: Deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons that are appropriately challenging, incorporating a range of sensory, communication, and life skills strategies.
  • Assessment and Progress Tracking: Monitor and assess the progress of students, maintaining accurate records of achievements, development, and areas for improvement. Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Individualized Support: Work closely with support staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure students receive the appropriate care and support to meet their individual needs.
  • Collaboration: Foster a collaborative approach within the classroom, encouraging teamwork and communication between students, staff, and parents to ensure holistic development.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a calm, positive, and structured classroom environment, ensuring students feel safe, respected, and valued.
  • Personal Care and Well-being: Support students with personal care needs when required, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility, while promoting their independence and dignity.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices and developments in special education, attending training and workshops to enhance teaching methods and understanding of PMLD.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience working with students with PMLD or additional learning needs
  • Knowledge of individualized learning plans and sensory integration techniques
  • Strong communication skills, including experience with alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECs)
  • Empathy, patience, and a passion for making a positive impact on students' lives
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
