This position offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in a supportive environment, complete with mentoring and professional development.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Specialty Doctor/Clinical Fellow in Breast Surgery to join our friendly and expanding team. We are seeking an experienced doctor in Breast Surgery for a 1-year fixed-term, full-time post of 40 hours per week, with no out-of-hours on-call commitments.
The successful candidate is expected to work independently with their own clinics and theatre sessions, developing towards a fully independent practice with consultant support as needed.
The department provides comprehensive screening and symptomatic breast cancer care, with access to radiological support including MRI biopsy and AI diagnostic facilities. Our theatre suite supports a range of oncoplastic breast surgeries, from localisation of non-palpable lesions to various oncoplastic techniques and reconstructions, with full support from microsurgery colleagues in plastic surgery. The department is part of the North East of Scotland Training Program, offering full training support and facilities across our hospitals.
Active trial recruitment and research projects are ongoing, complemented by a full teaching program.
The candidate should be flexible to cover clinical work in the new patient one-stop clinic, review clinics, and inpatient care. There is an on-call commitment during working hours for breast abscess referrals and other specialty referrals, shared among middle-grade doctors. Regular theatre sessions, both assisting and independently performing procedures depending on experience, are expected as the candidate develops their skills in breast cancer surgery towards independent practice. Participation in weekly MDT meetings and screening clinics is also expected, along with assisting consultants with result clinics during their absences.
Candidates working towards higher exams, CESR, or with specific development requirements are encouraged to discuss their plans early with the department head to facilitate progress.
Attendance at regular teaching, training sessions, QI projects, M&M meetings, and CME activities is required.
Full registration with a GMC license to practice is mandatory prior to starting the post. For more information, visit www.gmc-uk.org.
