Job description
Overview

A baby girl, nearly two, living in Beddau with her mum and new-born sister requires a Personal Assistant (PA) to support mum with day-to-day needs.

The family has complex health needs. The child is orally fed puree foods and milk/medications via an NG tube. She uses a specialist seat to support posture. The role is to work alongside mum to provide daily care and support as required, always taking instruction from mum.

Responsibilities
  • Personal care including changing nappies and getting dressed after a bath. At start, bathing assistance is not required, but you will be present when mum bathes her.
  • Support mum to take the child to health appointments (several per week).
  • Attend play groups either with mum or with the child and PA together.
  • Take the child for local walks in her specialist buggy.
  • Assist with feeding at a later stage, following appropriate training.
  • Undergo training related to the role, including feeding and manual handling.
  • Play with the child and help keep her occupied while mum completes chores.
Qualities and Requirements
  • Understanding of medical needs and ability to manage issues that may arise when together.
  • Reliable, caring and friendly; common sense and attention to detail are important, for example noticing if the child is having or is about to have a seizure (will be part of training).
  • Respect for confidentiality and working in the home.
  • Ability to take instruction from mum and to learn quickly.
  • Previous care experience (personal or in a caring environment) is helpful but not essential.
