Job summary

Dovetail & Slate Ltd is hiring a Plumbing Tutor to deliver Level 2 plumbing in a prison education setting. You will teach in small groups, assess progress, and support learners on their rehabilitation journey.

You will be supported to gain teaching or assessing qualifications on the job, with enhanced DBS check and HMPPS security vetting as part of the role. The position offers a salary of £30,000 per year and a structured pathway into education work.

Qualifications

• A Level 2 (or higher) qualification in Plumbing.
• Substantial hands-on experience in the plumbing trade.
• Patience, empathy and belief in learners' potential to change.

Responsibilities

• Deliver plumbing qualifications up to Level 2 to groups of learners.
• Conduct initial assessments and diagnostics to identify learners' starting points and needs.
• Plan and adapt lessons to meet diverse abilities and learning needs.
• Create structured training plans supporting individual learner goals.
• Assess learners' practical work and maintain records of progress and achievement.
• Instill safety standards, tool control and workshop discipline in a secure learning environment.
• Provide mentoring to help learners build confidence and work-readiness before release.

About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring Plumbing Tutor to join an employer in the justice sector, delivering meaningful vocational learning within a prison education setting. This is a unique opportunity to support learners on their rehabilitation journey, helping them build the practical skills, confidence and qualifications needed to progress into employment and shape brighter futures.

You'll deliver engaging and inclusive plumbing lessons, up to Level 2, to small groups of learners with a wide range of educational backgrounds, learning needs and abilities. Many of your learners will have had difficult experiences of education, so patience, empathy and a genuine belief in each individual's potential will matter as much as your technical knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

• A Level 2 (or higher) qualification in Plumbing.

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience delivering training, teaching or mentoring others.
• A teaching or assessing qualification.

No teaching qualification? No problem. If you have the trade expertise, you'll be fully supported to gain your teaching or assessing qualification on the job.
