Qualifications

Job description

Our client is looking to recruit a permanent Plumbing Tutor who can do more than just deliver training; they should also engage and inspire learners with little or no prior education.

Based on-site at HMP The Mount, Hemel Hempstead, you will deliver Plumbing qualifications up to level 2, working with small groups of prison-based learners to develop their skills, knowledge, and behaviours while supporting their long-term goals and aspirations.

Their Tutors ensure that appropriate training plans are in place and that guidance is provided when required, delivering high-quality courses that engage learners and help them reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify the individual needs of learners, ensuring each has an individual learning plan linked to their employment goals.
  2. Review learner progression continually to ensure training meets their needs.
  3. Prepare, deliver, and review comprehensive lesson plans addressing training needs, including literacy, numeracy, language, and social/employability barriers.
  4. Gather feedback from learners and other sources, reviewing and improving curriculum content accordingly.
  5. Engage and motivate individuals and groups to increase retention.
  6. Complete administration tasks such as registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, and awarding body documentation in line with deadlines.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues/hosts to support learner progression and employment opportunities.
  8. Meet contractual KPIs for success and performance.
  9. Prison-based roles are 100% site-based, involving face-to-face contact with prisoners.

Requirements

  1. Maths and English Level 2 for Vocational Tutors; Level 3 for Functional Skills Tutors.
  2. Full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, DTTLS) or willingness to work towards one. Desirable
  3. Subject-specific qualification. Desirable
  4. Successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS or DS check or Prison Security Clearance and provide proof of Right to Work in the UK.

Note: If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, the company can support you through the necessary qualifications and assessments during your probationary period.

  1. Confidence in presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
  2. Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively, especially in group settings.
  3. Respect for Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Data Protection policies, with attention to health and safety in off-site activities.
  4. A passion for motivating and leading by example to support learners in achieving qualifications.
  5. Understanding of the OFSTED framework (EIF) and ability to meet all standards.
