Job summary

GFSL is seeking a Mechanical (Plumber) Supervisor at HMP Winchester to lead a team of trades and ensure safe, compliant operation of building services. You will coordinate plumbers, electricians, carpenters and cleaners to deliver reliable facilities support within a secure environment.

The role requires Level 3 plumbing qualifications, extensive plumbing/heating knowledge, and strong health and safety awareness in a regulated setting. Mon–Fri schedule with a strong focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualifications in plumbing and related mechanical services.
• Five years' experience ideally in FM/secure environments.
• Experience with heating, water systems and building services.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and cleaners to maintain facilities.
• Ensure safe operation of mechanical and plumbing services in a secure environment.
• Implement and monitor Water Regs and Legionella control measures.

Location: HMP Winchester, Romsey Rd, Winchester SO22 5DF

Salary: £51,912.56 per annum (including allowances)

Contract: Full time, 39 hours per week, permanent

As the Mechanical (Plumber) Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to work alongside and coordinate experienced and passionate colleagues who vary from Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, to Cleaners and other Administrators, who are all dedicated to making a positive difference, providing a safe and secure environment for all.

We are a Ministry of Justice business and provide critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, and are looking for a Supervisor with one of the following Level 3 qualifications and combination of skills:

• - C&G 6189 Plumbing and domestic heating
• - C&G 5962 certificate in Plumbing (Advanced craft)
• - C&G 6019 Mechanical Engineering services (plumbing)
• - C&G 6018 heating and ventilation installation
• - C&G 6129 certificate in Plumbing
• - C&G 6188 Heating and ventilating
• - C&G 6088 certificate in heating and ventilating
• - C&G 6032 the advanced craft certificate in plumbing
• - EAL Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
• - A minimum of five years' experience, ideally within an FM environment and/ or secure environment, military, health or similar sectors.
• - Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water or building service systems.
• - Familiar with, and ability to, work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
• - Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• - Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• - A rounded knowledge of risk and compliance and demonstrable planning & project management skills.

Future Plans

GFSL has been notified by its shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
