Job summary

Bedford College Group is seeking a Technician in Plumbing and Electrical for the Apprenticeships department at Kempston Campus. You will support lecturers and students in workshops, manage stocks and tools, and ensure equipment is maintained for teaching activities.

Role involves health and safety oversight, safeguarding, and contributing to student learning outcomes. Permanent full-time, 37 hours weekly, salary £24,552–£26,754 DOE. Right to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Level 2 construction trade qualification, with relevant experience in electrical or plumbing, strong knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Able to prepare, maintain and repair tools and equipment, manage stock inventories, support workshop operations.
  • Communicates effectively with staff and students, works collaboratively and upholds professional standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility, aligns with college values and ongoing development.
  • Complies with safeguarding and health and safety requirements across college locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical support to lecturers, trainers and students within Electrical Installation, Plumbing and Construction workshops.
  • Manage workshop stores, stock, tools and equipment; maintain accurate inventories and oversee equipment loans.
  • Service, repair and prepare tools and equipment; ensure resources are available and fit for teaching activities.
  • Maintain safe, clean and secure workshop environments; undertake risk and COSHH assessments.
  • Support safeguarding, engagement and professional standards; participate in marketing and development activities.
