Job summary

Wigan & Leigh College is seeking a Plumbing and Gas Trainer Assessor to support apprenticeship delivery across plumbing, heating and gas sectors. You will conduct workplace assessments, progress reviews and SMART targets, prepare learners for ACS, and deliver apprenticeship standards and professional qualifications.

You’ll have an enhanced DBS and relevant assessment qualifications, with strong experience in the trades and the ability to travel to employer sites and across college locations.

Qualifications

  • Recognised assessment qualification such as TAQA, A1, V1 or equivalent.
  • Plumbing, heating and gas trade qualifications are required.
  • Experience in workplace assessment within plumbing and heating sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Assess Plumbing and Heating apprentices at Level 2 and Level 3.
  • Carry out workplace assessments, progress reviews and health and safety appraisals.

Assess the standard. Support the apprentice. Help plumbing and gas learners progress with confidence.

Plumbing, heating and gas apprentices need training and assessment that connects directly to the work they do every day.

They need clear feedback, strong evidence, safe working habits and support from someone who understands the sector properly.

As our Plumbing and Gas Trainer Assessor, you’ll help apprentices build the competence, confidence and professional standards they need to progress.

You’ll carry out workplace assessments, progress reviews, SMART target setting and action planning for apprentices working towards Plumbing and Heating standards and professional qualifications at Level 2 and Level 3. You’ll also support health and safety appraisals, portfolio assessment, Functional Skills and preparation for ACS and end-point assessment.

You’ll work with apprentices, employers, awarding bodies and college colleagues to support strong apprenticeship delivery and develop the college’s offer.

This is a role for someone with real plumbing and gas experience, a recognised assessment qualification and confidence in workplace assessment.

  • Embed Functional Skills where required.
  • Deliver to apprenticeship groups in college where needed.
  • Work with employer partners and awarding bodies to develop the offer.
  • Contribute to IQA, standardisation and quality activity.
What you’ll bring
  • A recognised assessment qualification, such as TAQA, A1, V1 or equivalent.
  • A suitable plumbing qualification.
  • A gas qualification.
  • Strong workplace experience in plumbing, heating or gas.
  • Proven confidence in workplace assessment within the plumbing and heating sector.
  • Experience assessing portfolios and supporting apprentice evidence.
  • Experience preparing learners for ACS assessments.
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage reviews, records and caseload activity.
  • A teaching qualification would be desirable.
  • Experience of environmental pathways or e-portfolio systems would be helpful.
