Job summary

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is recruiting permanent Plumbers to work within our prisons across Scotland. Roles are based on a 35-hour week, Monday to Friday, with on-call duties and travel to other establishments as required. All tools and PPE are provided, and a full UK driving licence is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have served a recognised apprenticeship in heating, plumbing or mechanical discipline to SVQ level 3.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver preventative and reactive maintenance on plumbing and fitting works.
  • Assist with legionella controls, heating and ventilation systems.
  • Be willing to travel to other establishments within Scotland as required.
  • Work 35 hours per week across Monday to Friday, with on-call duties as needed.

Current Annual Pay Package of up to £37,878 + On Call Allowance* for full time 35 hours per week. The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Plumbers to work within our prisons near you across Scotland. The Plumber will support the SPS Maintenance Team in all aspects of Estates work. Delivering preventative and reactive maintenance activities on plumbing and fitting works. Including but not limited to legionella controls, heating, and ventilation systems.

All of our Plumber roles are based on 35 hours per week worked across Monday to Friday and we provide all tools and PPE. There will be a requirement for you to periodically work on call hours, and you may need to travel to other establishments and areas. For this reason, a full driving licence that enables the person to drive in the UK is preferred. SPS is willing to consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

Applicant should have served a recognised apprenticeship in heating, plumbing or mechanical discipline to SVQ level 3.

On completion of all interviews, a locational merit order list will be created. Appointments will be made in accordance to merit where the current vacancies are. Where there are more successful candidate(s) than posts available, locational reserve merit order lists may be created and retained for 12 months.

Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment checks, which will include an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check, References, DVLA licence check (where applicable) and Nationality checks as well as a Medical Assessment.

Please note the annual pay package is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience, and is made up of basic salary plus temporary allowances.
