Purpose of Role

We’re looking for a commercially experienced plumber or mechanical engineer to join our maintenance team at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Orpington

Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled individual with a background in commercial plumbing or mechanical systems to transition into a hospital environment, with training and support provided to gain experience in specialist systems such as AHUs, BMS controls, medical gases, and chilled water systems

Responsibilities

•Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on hot and cold-water systems, pipework, valves, pumps, and heating plant.
• Maintain and repair Air Handling Units (AHUs) including filter changes, belt replacements, motor checks, and general servicing.
• Support fault-finding and diagnosis across various mechanical building systems.
• Assist with maintaining key hospital systems including BMS, chilled water, and medical gas (training provided).
• Respond to maintenance requests from hospital users and ensure all tasks are recorded via PDA.
• Work as part of a team to maintain a safe and compliant environment for patients and staff.

Essential Qualifications/Skills

What we’re looking for:

• Experienced commercial plumber or mechanical engineer with a proven background in building services or FM environments.
• Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills, particularly in domestic hot/cold water, heating systems, pumps, pipework, and AHUs.
• Willingness to learn new systems such as medical gases, chilled water systems, and BMS controls (training will be provided).
• Good communication skills and confident engaging with clinical staff and contractors in a live hospital setting.
• Competent using PDAs/mobiles for job logging and paperwork.

Desirable (but not essential):

• Previous experience in NHS or healthcare environments.
• Familiarity with BMS systems, medical gases, or chilled water plant.
