Job summary

St George’s Primary School in Wallasey is seeking a Playworker for Dragon Club to support morning and after-school care (7:25am–8:50am and 3:00pm–5:35pm term time only). You will deliver engaging activities for children aged 3–11, help supervise, prepare snacks safety, and work as part of the school team to create a safe, enjoyable environment.

We’re looking for a caring, reliable candidate with GCSE literacy/numeracy, a Basic Food Hygiene certificate, and experience with children.

Qualifications

  • GCSE level literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate required or willingness to undertake training.
  • Experience working with children in a school or related environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Good communication, administration and organisational skills.
  • Empathetic, approachable and positive attitude toward children.
  • Understanding of children's welfare needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and escort children to play areas, ensuring belongings are safe.
  • Deliver activities supporting intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
  • Promote good behaviour and manage conflicts per school policies.
  • Help prepare and serve refreshments following safety guidelines.
  • Set up and clean equipment, fostering independence in a safe environment.
  • Maintain attendance registers using the booking system and ensure children leave with designated adult.
  • Record incidents and report safety concerns on the School MIS and to the Extended Service Manager.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support children's welfare and safety.

Job description

As a Playworker at in Dragon Club, you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of St George’s Primary School mission statement of “Nurturing our community through opportunities, innovation and love”. We are seeking a dedicated professional who is passionate about our values and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our pupils.

Your Role in Dragon Club

We are looking to appoint a reliable, committed member of the Dragon Club team to provide care, guidance and support for our children during our morning and after-school wrap-around care. (7:25am - 8:50am and 3pm - 5:35pm Term Time only)

The role involves delivering an exciting range of programmes and activities for children aged 3-11, in the allocated play spaces. We require a caring, committed individual who has the ability to work as part of the school team and inspire trust and confidence in children.

The post holder will also assist in the preparation of snack with due regard to health & safety in food preparation and an awareness of the school’s healthy school status and policy.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and respond sensitively and confidently to the needs of the children. The ability to use IT equipment and navigate the school’s MIS and booking systems is essential. Full training will be given. The post holder must be self-motivated, flexible and a good team player, who is dedicated to ensuring that Dragon Club is a pleasurable and safe experience for our children

As a Playworker, you will be responsible for:
  • Supervising and escorting children to play areas safely, ensuring they have their belongings.
  • Delivering activities that support children's development (intellectual, physical, social, emotional, etc.).
  • Promoting good behaviour and handling conflicts or incidents in line with school behaviour policies.
  • Helping prepare and serve refreshments, following health and safety guidelines.
  • Setting up and cleaning equipment, encouraging children’s independence whilst maintaining a safe environment for play.
  • Maintaining attendance registers using our booking system and ensuring children leave with the designated adult.
  • Reporting & recording incidents, accidents, and any issues concerning discipline or safety on our School MIS and to the Extended Service Manager, as appropriate.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff to support children's welfare and safety.
