These outdoor play and recreational spaces have a very real impact on both the quality of Sheffield’s parks and green spaces and the health and wellbeing of people citywide, especially children and families of all abilities.

We are recruiting a Playground Inspector to join the team responsible for playground maintenance, repair, improvement, and inspection.

Ideally, you will have a background in safety assessments of public facilities. Direct experience of the inspection of outdoor play and recreational facilities would be an advantage.

We are looking for someone who is:

  1. Driven and passionate about ensuring the safety of outdoor play and recreational facilities and their upkeep.
  2. Good observational skills and attention to detail.
  3. A good team player.
  4. A good communicator and is happy in a public-facing role.
  5. Able to travel within Sheffield and occasionally outside of the city.

Join us and you will receive a generous rewards package including access to membership of the Local Government Pension scheme and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you will be working in a supportive environment where you will have the chance to make Sheffield a better place and contribute to its future. Informal enquiries can be made by contacting Tania Ginnever.

As you may be asked to drive a Council vehicle, an ability to drive is essential.

If appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

We are investing in our workforce and promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity, and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled, and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria of this job are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year, and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part-time, or as a job share.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
