Job description

Hello applicants, my name is Ellie Varney, and I am the Principal Allied Health Professional for Great Yarmouth and Waveney, as well as a Play Therapist by profession. I am pleased to advertise the position of Play Therapist within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

Play Therapy has been an integral part of the CAMHS Team for many years. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to young people experiencing mental health difficulties.

The team is based at Northgate Hospital in Great Yarmouth and Meridian House in Lowestoft, with some flexibility around hybrid working.

We are seeking an experienced Play Therapist, preferably with a Master's Degree in Play Therapy. However, we will consider applicants with a Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy who can demonstrate significant post-qualifying experience working with complex young people in mental health settings.

We welcome Play Therapists interested in working within a multidisciplinary team and capable of supporting the core functions of the team. The main duties include:

  1. Undertaking assessments to determine suitability for Play Therapy.
  2. Working individually with young people using Play Therapy techniques.
  3. Conducting group work or parent-child work using Play Therapy skills, CPRT, or Filial therapy (if trained).
  4. Providing regular reviews and utilizing an outcomes-based approach to monitor progress.

Additionally, clinicians within the CAMHS team are expected to:

  1. Offer initial assessments for young people entering the service.
  2. Provide engagement and psychoeducation for young people and their families where needed.
  3. Liaise with external agencies such as Children's Services and schools.
  4. Understand and manage risk when working with young people experiencing suicidal ideation or self-harm.
  5. Recognize safeguarding issues and act appropriately.
  6. Participate in weekly case review meetings for young people.
