Job description

Be the Magic Behind the Play – Join Us as a Play Co-ordinator!

Are you passionate about play and looking for a role where you can make a real difference in the lives of children and young people? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment where no two days are the same? As a Play Co-ordinator in Blaenau Gwent, you’ll lead exciting, inclusive play opportunities that spark imagination, build confidence, and create lasting memories. This is more than a job – it’s a chance to be part of something meaningful, fun and full of impact.

About the role

As a Play Co-ordinator in Blaenau Gwent’s Childcare & Play Team, you’ll take the lead in delivering fun, inclusive and meaningful play sessions for children and young people across the borough. You’ll plan and deliver after-school and school holiday sessions that are packed with imagination, exploration, and excitement – with play experiences ranging from creative arts to wild outdoor adventures.

Your role will involve planning activities, sourcing materials, assessing and booking venues, and promoting events within the community. You’ll also take the lead on coordinating major community celebrations such as National Play Day, helping to create memorable moments for families across Blaenau Gwent.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring our provision is accessible, inclusive, and child-led – while embedding the Play work Principles in everything you do. You’ll support volunteers, oversee on-site delivery, and ensure the safety, wellbeing and enjoyment of every child. It’s a varied, vibrant role with real responsibility – and real reward.

About you

You’re passionate about the power of play and the positive impact it can have on children’s lives. With experience of working with children and young people, you’re confident leading engaging activities, building relationships, and creating safe, welcoming environments where every child feels valued and included.

You’re an excellent communicator – equally comfortable chatting with children, collaborating with colleagues, or speaking with parents and community partners. You’re highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities, and happy to take the lead when needed.

Whether it’s planning a week of themed sessions, assessing risk on a Wild Camp, or coordinating volunteers on-site, you’re adaptable, enthusiastic, and committed to giving children the best possible experiences. A knowledge of safeguarding and an understanding of inclusive practice are essential – but your energy, creativity and care are what make you stand out.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The post holder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records - Enhanced Disclosure with Child Barred List

Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement of the role.
