Our Culture

We are a group of trusting and inclusive individuals, who encourage, are creative and want to make a difference in the world. We do not take ourselves too seriously and we love to tell a story. We innovate, work hard and take risks but at the forefront is a joint mission to be part of groundbreaking research to ultimately advance and develop science to support those most in need.

What We Do

The process of conducting clinical research is incredibly expensive and time consuming, limiting our efforts to find answers to the world’s most important medical challenges. uMed is a clinical research network fit for the 21st century, underpinned by cutting edge technology that connects patients, electronic health data and research groups across the world. Our rapidly growing network covers 90 GP sites in the UK representing over 2,000,000 patients with our first US healthcare system joining us this year bringing a further 5M patients. uMed was founded by an NHS doctor, supported by a world class board and backed by London and US based venture capital.

Life at uMed

No matter what an organisation is trying to achieve, success or failure is inextricably linked to the people within it. For a young company, there is no redundancy, so this relationship is turned up to eleven.

Role Overview

The Platform Operations Specialist is responsible for the operational configuration, administration, and ongoing management of uMed's product platform. Working closely with Product Managers, Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Operations, the Platform Operations Specialist ensures that new product capabilities, studies, customer configurations, and operational processes are implemented accurately, consistently, and efficiently, and in accordance with defined standards. The role focuses on the activities required to operationalize the platform after software development is complete. This includes configuring platform features, coordinating platform setup activities, validating configurations, managing operational product data, and supporting releases to ensure customers receive a reliable, high-quality service. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys understanding how complex systems work, has excellent attention to detail, and enjoys turning product requirements into well-configured operational solutions. The Platform Operations Specialist is accountable for the accuracy, consistency, and quality of operational product configuration. This role does not own product strategy, product priorities, software development, technical architecture, or people management.

Requirements
Platform Configuration & Administration
  • Configure and maintain the uMed platform to support new studies, product capabilities, and operational processes.
  • Configure platform settings, workflows, communications, templates, questionnaires, reference data, and other configurable platform components.
  • Ensure all platform configurations are implemented accurately, consistently, and in accordance with established standards.
  • Review configuration requests for completeness and identify potential issues before implementation.
  • Develop and maintain reusable configuration templates to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
Platform Delivery Support
  • Work closely with Product Managers to translate product requirements into operational platform configurations.
  • Coordinate operational activities required to support new studies, platform enhancements, and product releases.
  • Validate platform configurations before release to ensure they meet business and quality expectations.
  • Support release readiness by ensuring all required operational setup activities have been completed.
  • Assist in investigating production issues where the root cause may relate to platform configuration rather than software defects
Operational Excellence
  • Continuously improve operational processes by identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate repetitive activities.
  • Develop checklists, templates, and repeatable processes that improve quality, consistency, and implementation efficiency.
  • Work with Product and Engineering to identify opportunities to automate manual configuration activities as the platform evolves.
  • Monitor operational processes and recommend improvements that improve reliability and reduce operational risk.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive runbooks for all platform configuration activities.
  • Create and maintain user guides, configuration documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure documentation remains current as the platform evolves.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through documentation, training, and knowledge transfer activities, ensuring operational knowledge is not dependent on a single individual.
Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Product, Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Operations teams to coordinate platform operational activities.
  • Ensure operational dependencies are identified and completed before releases.
  • Communicate configuration progress, issues, and risks to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Support internal teams by providing product configuration expertise and operational guidance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across Product and Delivery.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure platform configurations comply with internal standards and regulatory requirements and defined operational processes.
  • Maintain appropriate records of significant configuration changes where required.
  • Follow established change management processes for production environments.
  • Support audits by maintaining accurate operational documentation.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Experience working within healthcare, health technology, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience configuring or administering SaaS or enterprise software platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to operational work.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate operational issues.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into accurate platform configurations.
  • Experience using configuration-driven software platforms.
  • Strong documentation skills, with the ability to develop clear runbooks, user guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience working in Agile software delivery environments.
  • Experience working in a startup or scale-up environment is desirable.
