Job summary

Fruition Group partners with a national public sector regulator to hire a Platform Engineering Manager who will lead the Azure-based platform supporting the organisation’s digital services.

You will set the technical direction, champion a DevOps culture and mentor engineers, with scope to progress into line management as the platform scales and reliability remains a priority.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or mentoring a team of technical engineers.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience building and optimising CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Bicep or Terraform.
• Docker and containerisation in production environments

They're looking for a Platform Engineering Manager to lead the team behind the cloud platform that supports all of their internal and external digital services. Their work has a real impact on people's lives across the UK, so this is a genuine tech-for-good role and a chance to make a real difference.

The organisation has recently finished a major, government-backed investment in its IT platform and moved its services to Microsoft Azure. You'll set the technical direction for that platform and lead a team of mostly senior platform engineers. This is a technical leadership role, not a heavy people-management one, and there's scope to grow into line management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of platform engineers to design, build, test and maintain the Azure infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines behind the organisation's digital services.
• Set the technical direction for the platform and guide the team's technical work.
• Build and improve deployment pipelines, driving efficiency through automation.
• Make sure security, stability and capacity are built into how services are developed and deployed.
• Champion a DevOps culture, encouraging close collaboration between product, engineering and operational teams.
• Oversee backup and disaster recovery strategies so services can be recovered in the event of an incident.
• Coach and mentor engineers, and set standards and best practice across the service lifecycle.
• Work with stakeholders across the business and explain technical concepts in clear, business-focused language.

Key Requirements

• A background in DevOps, platform engineering, cloud engineering or SRE. An infrastructure background is also welcome, provided you have strong cloud experience.
• Experience leading or mentoring a team of technical engineers.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience building and optimising CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Bicep or Terraform.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style for a range of stakeholders.
• Public sector experience
• Docker and containerisation in production environments
• Scripting experience, such as PowerShell, Python or Bash
• Large-scale cloud migrations
• Database ownership and disaster recovery experience
• Monitoring, logging and alerting tools
