Role: Platform Engineering – Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Birmingham - CV2 (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)

Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (12 months)

Salary Package: £60,000 - £75,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid-for volunteering days a year

Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday

Role purpose:

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a key role within the Platform Engineering and Services function, responsible for the management and maintenance of all Data Centre services infrastructure environments, management tooling, and the services delivered from them. This role involves delivering best practices in infrastructure lifecycle management, evolving technologies, and leading project delivery in collaboration with architects to develop and challenge designs.

Security clearance or willingness to apply will be required for this role.

Key responsibilities:

• Building, maintaining, and providing 4th line support for platform services.
• Act as a point of escalation for other platform engineers.
• Lead key platform projects, ensuring delivery to specifications.
• Maintain, upgrade, and support platform services.
• Collaborate with infrastructure architects to improve and develop new services.
• Create and support automation capabilities for infrastructure services.
• Challenge technical experts to explore solutions logically.
• Adhere to company policies and processes.
• Provide professional service to internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as required by line management.

Skills and experience:

• Strong infrastructure skills including virtualization, backup, security, networking, monitoring, and storage technologies.
• Experience with VMware vSphere & vCloud Director, Veeam, Zerto, Hyper-V & SCVMM, Logic Monitor.
• Knowledge of Azure, Entra, IBM Storage, Brocade FC SAN switches.
• Experience with automation and orchestration tools.
• Working knowledge of Cisco and Fortigate Firewalls.
• Understanding of IDS/IPS technologies.
• Experience with project and service management best practices (PRINCE2, ITIL v3).
• Proven leadership in large infrastructure deployments.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Positive attitude and effective collaboration skills.
• Must be able to obtain necessary security clearances.
