Job description

Platform Engineer – Contract (6 Months) – Telford (On-site, 2 Days Per Week) – Inside IR35

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer with a strong public sector background to join a key project on a 6-month contract. This role requires on-site work in Telford for 2 days per week, with the rest of the time working remotely. The position is Inside IR35 and offers a competitive daily rate.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient cloud platforms to support public sector services.
  2. Work within Agile delivery teams to develop infrastructure solutions that meet business and security requirements.
  3. Automate infrastructure deployment using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  4. Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient and reliable software delivery.
  5. Support containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
  6. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability and security compliance.
  7. Collaborate with developers, security specialists, and operations teams to enhance platform capabilities.
  8. Ensure alignment with public sector governance, security, and compliance standards.
  9. Provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers on best practices and DevOps methodologies.
Essential Skills & Experience:
  1. Public Sector Experience – Strong background working in government or public sector organizations.
  2. Cloud Expertise – Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including security and cost optimization.
  3. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  4. CI/CD & Automation – Proficiency in Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  5. Containerization & Orchestration – Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  6. Monitoring & Logging – Knowledge of tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or CloudWatch.
  7. Security & Compliance – Understanding of public sector security frameworks, including ISO 27001, NCSC guidelines, and CIS benchmarks.
  8. Scripting & Automation – Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
