Job Description

Job Title: Plater Fabricator

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base

Salary: £34,640 plus overtime and shift allowance

Who we are:

We are a world-recognised defence organisation involved in the refit and maintenance of all serving vessels, such as QEC and Type 45 Destroyers. Our team is responsible for the constructive aspects of maintenance, including new components and structural repairs of the British Naval Fleet. This flexibility may include accruing hours and adjusting start and finish times to help you balance work, on-site responsibilities, and personal life.

What you’ll be doing:

• Be trade competent, with a minimum of 60% skilled against MS_Constructive competencies
• Carry out trade-specific risk assessments before each task, as detailed by the Team Leader
• Abide by all risk assessments, BAE policies, and legal requirements
• Ensure all tools and equipment used are suitable, fit for purpose, and within inspection dates
• Attend training courses, toolbox talks, and briefings
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, managing expectations and needs
• Mentor allocated apprentices
• Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses using the appropriate reporting tools

Skills and experiences:

• Completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship, naval equivalent qualifications, or NVQ in Trade
• Experience in fabrication
• Competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment
• Relevant industry experience in Marine, Oil & Gas, Heavy Construction, or Rolling Stock
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
