Qualifications

Job Description

Job Title: Plater and Fabricator

Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)

Service Area: Service Delivery, Locks & Docks

Hours of Work: 37 Per week

What You’ll be doing:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Plater/Fabricator as part of the KBS Maritime Locks and Docks team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned dock preparations, docking and undocking of vessels in PNB.
  • Operating tirfors, fitting shores, undertaking basic slinging tasks, and line handling for vessel and caisson movement.
  • Carrying out structural repairs to pontoons and brows.
You’ll Have:

Ideally, you’ll have completed a recognized Shipwright/Plater Fabricator apprenticeship and possess a relevant trade qualification. Alternatively, you should have working knowledge of the safe operation of tirfors, shores, and hand tools. Experience with metalwork, welding, and woodwork for maintenance and repair of dockside infrastructure is also desirable.

You should be willing to support all team outputs to meet KBS Maritime contract requirements, work collaboratively, and support team members to achieve KPIs and customer expectations.

You should be able to build positive relationships, demonstrate emotional stability, and be confident in your abilities. Your ability to identify key issues and collaborate effectively with internal and external customers will be critical. Flexibility to work out of hours as required by tides, with a customer-centric 'can do' attitude, is essential.
