Job summary

Recruit4staff LTD in Irlam, Manchester is seeking a Plater to fabricate and assemble heavy-gauge structural steel components. The role uses oxy-fuel gas cutting, grinding, fitting, fairing and tack welding against engineering drawings, with lifting equipment to position assemblies and perform pressure testing and drilling.

You will be expected to maintain high standards of workmanship while adhering to health and safety procedures in a busy fabrication environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Plater or Fabricator in heavy-gauge steel fabrication.
• Experience in marine, nuclear, offshore, petrochemical or construction sectors.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent in Fabrication or Plating preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and assemble heavy-gauge structural steel components.
• Operate oxy-fuel cutting, grinding, fitting, fairing and tack welding.
• Interpret engineering drawings and use fabrication tools and machinery.
• Position components with lifting equipment and undertake pressure testing, drilling and lock fitting.

Job Details

Pay: £19.32 per hour (£40,185.60 per annum)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 14:00

Duration: Permanent

Job Role

As a Plater, you will fabricate and assemble heavy-gauge structural steel components, using oxy-fuel gas cutting, hand grinding, fitting, fairing and tack welding techniques. Working from engineering drawings, the Plater will operate a range of fabrication tools and machinery, use lifting equipment to position and assemble components, and undertake pressure testing, drilling and lock fitting. The successful Plater will ensure all assemblies are finished to a high standard while maintaining strict health and safety procedures.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven experience working as a Plater or Fabricator, specialising in heavy-gauge steel fabrication and plating.
• Experience within the marine, nuclear, steel fabrication, offshore, petrochemical or construction industries.
• Ability to read and accurately interpret engineering drawings.

Advantageous Skills, Experience or Qualifications

• City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Fabrication or Plating.
• Significant experience working on heavy-gauge structural steel projects within the construction or civil engineering sectors.
• Previous experience undertaking complex structural steel fabrication and assembly work would be advantageous for this Plater position.
