Job summary

Metcalfe Plant Hire Ltd in Penrith, Cumbria, is recruiting a full-time Yard Operative / Delivery Driver to join our plant hire team. Based at Gilwilly premises, you will support the yard, manage deliveries, and ensure a professional service to internal and external customers.

The role requires IT literacy, strong organisation, and a valid full UK driving licence. You will work in a safety-conscious environment with a focus on customer service and reliability.

Qualifications

• IT literacy and willingness to learn the Plant Hire System.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines in a busy yard.
• Plant hire background/experience with construction equipment is preferable.
• Excellent communication skills with customers and colleagues.
• Demonstrated initiative and high attention to detail.
• Must hold a full clean driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Promote safe working practices and enforce health and safety policies in the yard.
• Ensure safe vehicle and personnel movements in the yard and proper PPE use.
• Greet visitors and act as an ambassador for Metcalfe Plant Hire Ltd.
• Assist in overseeing plant on/off hires and liaise with Hire Desk and Workshop.
• Inspect plant for cleanliness and compliance with testing/certification before dispatch.
• Record damage and cleaning needs and photograph as required.
• Coordinate with Workshop Manager to prioritise repairs and maintenance.
• Support Yard Delivery Driver/Operative with workload management and delivery requirements.
• Resolve customer queries promptly and maintain a tidy, safe yard.
