Overview

This is the advanced journey-level class in the Plant Operator / System series. Positions at this level are distinguished by their level of responsibility and complexity, including lead supervisory activities and participation in developing goals and procedures for water and wastewater treatment. Employees must be fully trained in all procedures related to their responsibilities and hold the appropriate certification.

Responsibilities
  1. Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  2. Read, interpret, and calibrate gauges and recording devices.
  3. Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests.
  4. Diagnose operating issues and implement solutions.
  5. Make independent decisions to ensure proper treatment processes.
  6. Maintain records and prepare reports.
  7. Perform maintenance, repairs, and installations on plant equipment.
  8. Interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
  9. Perform manual labor as required.
  10. Schedule maintenance activities.
  11. Resolve operational problems logically.
  12. Operate office equipment and software.
  13. Adapt to new technologies and equipment.
  14. Audit timesheets and manage data entry.
  15. Assign tasks and projects to staff.
  16. Lead and train lower-level staff.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Class A Water/Wastewater Certification.
  • Ability to access pump stations by climbing up to 30 rungs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
  • Color vision sufficient to differentiate colors.
