Job summary

The University of Sheffield is recruiting a Technician: Research to support a plant biology and coastal dunes project in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology cluster. You will care for marram grass, conduct stress experiments and record detailed measurements in a busy laboratory setting.

Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will follow established protocols, maintain accurate records, and contribute to publications and grant-related outputs.

Qualifications

• Experience with plant biology and horticulture in a lab setting.
• Ability to collect accurate phenotypic or experimental measurements.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Germinate, grow and maintain marram grass for experiments.
• Conduct stress response experiments.
• Phenotype plants for several traits.
• Conduct controlled crosses between marram grass and relatives.
• Maintain comprehensive, accurate records of research work.
• Prioritise workload to meet project deadlines.
• Provide regular updates on project progress.
• Attend safety and training courses.
• Assist in preparing posters, papers, and grant reports as required.
• Adapt and transfer skills to new experimental approaches.
• Commit to on-the-job learning and development.
• Embed sustainability awareness in daily activities.
