Job summary

SUEZ is seeking a hands-on Waste Transfer Station operative to support busy operations at a material transfer station in the UK. You will operate both mobile and fixed plant, manage vehicle movements, and ensure accurate weighbridge records while maintaining high safety and service standards.

The role requires valid licences for loading shovel, 360 tele-handler, and forklift, plus strong teamwork, customer service, and safety awareness. Some weekend cover and flexible scheduling may be needed.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of site licence/permit systems and compliance.
  • Flexible, able to cover annual leave and weekends when required.
  • Operational experience and current licences for site plant.
  • Experience in waste/recycling environments advantageous.
  • Strong health & safety mindset and practices.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile and fixed plant, including cleaning and maintenance.
  • Manage traffic and guide tipping vehicles on site.
  • Operate weighbridge and record vehicle weights accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and welfare obligations.
  • Co-operate with colleagues and customers, following SOPs.
  • Provide first aider / fire safety duties when needed.
  • Undertake other duties within the job scope as required.

Job description

What will I be doing?

You will carry out duties individually, or as a member of a team, for operations to control, transfer and stockpile waste & recyclables at a busy material transfer station.

The role will involve:

  • Operating mobile and fixed plant, including cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
  • Managing traffic, such as guiding tipping vehicles.
  • Operate the weighbridge and accurately record the weight and other specified details of vehicles both entering and leaving the site.
  • Ensure that SUEZ complies fully with its legal duties, in respect of the health, safety and welfare of its employees and of other people who may be affected by his/her actions or omissions.
  • Co-operating with SUEZ and with other employees in order to comply with site permits, all applicable legislation and SUEZ Policies and Procedures.
  • Co-operating directly with customers and members of the public, providing excellent customer service.
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested within the scope of the job-role, including undertaking first aider / fire safety duties on site.

What are the requirements?

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player, who will be expected to obtain a working knowledge of the site licence / permit system and who will work to ensure site operations meet the standards required. You'll need a flexible approach, working in a challenging environment, expected to provide cover for annual leave and on occasion to help cover weekends, as well as:

  • Operational experience and current licences for loading shovel, 360 tele-handler and forklift
  • You’ll have the opportunity to undertake personal development to obtain skills for waste acceptance, maintenance of site equipment, infrastructure and operation of site machinery.
  • Prior waste / recycling or similar process environment highly advantageous
  • Excellent understanding and approach to health & safety
  • Great communication and customer service skills
  • Good IT skills.
