As a key member of the Operations Team, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of plant operations, ensuring optimum levels of performance are achieved and sustained in accordance with permit obligations and health and safety procedures. The role will prioritise, reliability and availability while fostering a culture of ownership and accountability
You’ll be an experienced manager, with the ability to focus on the effective use of onsite resources and staff – working towards set KPI targets and supporting the Service teams, to ensure quick turnaround and efficiency of operations, whilst promoting a positive team working culture. This role includes reporting directly to the board along with a potential pathway towards a more strategic position.
Specifically, this will involve:
- The management, mentoring and allocation of site personnel, including the overseeing of staff training, associated plant administration, influencing hiring and firing decisions and disciplinary procedures.
- SCM - Development of Planning Function - working with site Operations on forecasting and capacity constraints, removing bottlenecks.
- Managing and monitoring daily performance of plant employees, providing feedback and growth opportunities, implementing changes to continually improve work productivity and processes.
- Organising planned and reactive maintenance activities in conjunction with the Regional Process Manager, Maintenance Engineers, Shift Leaders, Head of Processing and the Engineering Team, and scheduling and supervising of contractors as required.
- Managing and maintaining regulatory compliance within the plant and yard. Completing risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, Maintenance & Orders Plant processing supplies consisting of PPE, uniforms, critical spares, cleaning material and processing consumables to ensure that adequate inventories are always available.
- Managing site operations, including contractual commitments and compliance with health, safety and environmental standards (ISO9001, 14001, 45001)
- Provides a prompt/timely out of hours response service in relation to any issues arising on the site.
- Managing and prioritising operational spending, including P&L, in line with agreed budgets, as well as providing general support to the rest of the management team across all aspects of plant and engineering.
- Performing facility audits and initiating actions to assure timely resolution of identified hazards & improvements.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement
This is a hands-on management role, preferably from an allied process plant background with an understanding of waste related legislation, and who can demonstrate:
- At least 3 years’ experience in Waste Management
- Proven decisive leadership qualities, first rate communication skills and a strong customer focus, coupled with plenty of initiative, a positive outlook and the ability to work independently.
- A good level of technical expertise and significant engineering experience in a similar environment, including the ability/willingness to undertake running repairs
- Strong financial acumen with experience in managing P&L and budgets
- A good level of IT/PC Literacy, especially in relation to Microsoft Office packages/applications
- Must have of working towards a Health & Safety qualification e.g NEBOSH
- N.B. Preferably, applicants will hold a qualification in waste facility management
