Job summary

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering is recruiting a Plant Fitter to join the Leiston team on the Sizewell C project. You will provide depot and mobile support, inspect plant machinery, diagnose faults and carry out repairs on engines, transmissions, and hydraulic/fueling systems.

The role requires CSCS NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent, with IPAF and CSC Card desirable. A strong team player with meticulous hands-on skills will excel on a large-scale civil engineering site.

Responsibilities

  • Provide depot and mobile support to busy Plant Operations at Leiston.
  • Inspect plant machinery to identify faults and assess repairs.
  • Arrange spare parts and coordinate manpower resources for repairs.
  • Diagnose faults, service, strip, repair and test engines, transmissions and fuel injection systems under supervision.
  • Carry out electrical fault finding across 12v and 24v systems.
  • Read electrical drawings to support diagnosis and repair.
  • Maintain and test charging systems and batteries.
  • Install accessories using correct procedures, tools and equipment.
  • Read hydraulic drawings to diagnose faults correctly.
  • Test hydraulic systems using flow meters, pressure gauges and hydraulic test rigs.
  • Fit, set up and test hydraulic components, including hose assemblies.
  • Carry out minor welding, bench fitting, drilling, tapping and basic machining to support plant repairs.

About The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Plant Fitter to join our Ground Engineering team working on the Sizewell C project in Leiston, Suffolk. Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable load low‑carbon electricity.

About the Project

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke. We are more than just an alliance; we are bringing together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.

What you’ll be doing
