Job description

Unity Doors is a specialist in the design, manufacture and supply of composite and timber doorsets and accessories. We are recruiting for a Plant Engineer to join our Manufacturing & Engineering team based at our head office in Newent, Gloucestershire.


Location: Based at Head Office in Newent, Gloucestershire


Hours of work: 40 hours per week - 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (Some flexibility required dependent on needs of business)


Salary: Dependent on experience - Up to £45k per annum

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Performs regular / routine tasks focusing on continuous improvement and the prevention / elimination of problem reoccurrence.
  2. Maintains assigned equipment in good operating order by:
    1. Performing TPM activities as and when required, including cleaning, checking, adjusting, and testing, according to equipment checklists.
    2. Making repairs to equipment promptly and effectively as required.
    3. Maintaining accurate TPM records.
    4. Preparing and being able to train operators in basic equipment repairs / maintenance.
    5. Able to operate production machinery especially CNC for the purpose of set-up, adjustment or fault finding.
    6. Sourcing and liaising with 3rd party contractors to complete statutory or complex maintenance / repairs.
    7. Ongoing repair work on skin stillages and managing the rotation with Production / Mitras.
    8. Comfortable working in a “start-up” environment as and when new equipment is introduced.
    9. May be required to do basic building maintenance or repair work in all areas of the plant.
    10. Maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work area using the 5S (or similar) techniques and following all safety and works regulations.
    11. Working closely with Production Management team and Project Engineer on improvements and ad-hoc activities.
    12. Providing engineering support at the JCK Joinery site in Leicester, as and when required.
Skills, Abilities and Characteristics:
  1. Mechanical engineering qualifications or time worked apprenticeship.
  2. Previous experience of working on CNC / PLC production machinery and knowledge of repair / fault finding.
  3. Understanding of electrical works or relevant qualifications - City & Guilds 17th Edition level and PAT Testing, desirable.
  4. Previous experience of working in a manufacturing / production environment, preferably working with high volume and bespoke products.
  5. Team player and willingness to get the job done.
  6. Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised.
  7. Driven, passionate and committed to ensuring personal and company success.
