Job summary

MacGregor Industrial Supplies Ltd in Inverness is seeking a hands-on Plant & Hire Equipment Technician to keep our hire fleet safe, maintained, and ready for customers.

You will service, repair and prepare equipment, diagnose faults, and work with the Parts team to source components, with a 1 in 4 weekend on-call rota.

This role offers ongoing training and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Practical experience servicing plant and hire equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and mechanical skills.

Responsibilities

• Servicing, maintaining and preparing plant and hire equipment.
• Inspecting, testing and repairing returned hire equipment.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out mechanical repairs.
• Completing pre-hire and post-hire inspections to ensure safety standards are met.
• Working closely with the Parts team to source required components.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop.
• Setting up and operating equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines.
• Accurately completing job records, service sheets and timesheets.
• Ensuring equipment is cleaned, checked and ready for the next hire.
• Supporting the wider team to maximise equipment availability.
• Participating in a 1 in 4 weekend on-call rota to support customer needs.

We’re looking for a hands-on, skilled Plant & Hire Equipment Technician to join our Inverness team, playing a key role in keeping our hire fleet safe, maintained, and ready when our customers need it most.

The Role

You’ll be at the heart of our operation — making sure equipment is serviced, repaired, and ready to go.

What you’ll be doing:

• Servicing, maintaining and preparing plant and hire equipment
• Inspecting, testing and repairing returned hire equipment
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out mechanical repairs

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone practical, reliable and proud of the work they do.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience as a plant technician, mechanical technician, agricultural mechanic, small engine mechanic or similar
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• A high level of attention to detail and quality
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Experience with plant, groundcare, agricultural, automotive or small engine equipment is all relevant — if you’ve worked with machinery, we want to hear from you.
