Job description

Job Title: Planning Officer

Salary: £37,280 - £40,777

Hours: 37 hours per week

Type: Permanent

Location: Malvern

Wychavon and Malvern have an ambitious growth strategy, planning to build over 20,000 homes and 300 hectares of employment land over the next 15 years. The strategy includes major new settlements at Worcestershire Parkway for 10,000 homes and Throckmorton for 5,000 homes, alongside regeneration projects in Evesham and Droitwich. This role offers an opportunity to shape the future of some of the fastest-growing districts in the West Midlands.

In this position, you will process and assess a variety of planning applications, including site appraisals, negotiations, report writing, presentations at Committees, and appeal work.

You will communicate regularly with applicants, agents, the public, and elected members. Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement are essential, along with a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.

This role is ideal for an experienced planning professional looking to develop their career in a supportive and ambitious environment.

About you
  • Experience handling minor and other planning applications, including householder applications
  • Up-to-date knowledge of planning law and practice
  • A recognised qualification in town planning or substantial experience in the field
  • Full MRTPI membership or willingness to work towards it, with a commitment to CPD
  • Good computer literacy
  • Ability to manage a caseload of applications
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Flexibility to attend Planning Committee meetings and undertake site visits; a full driving license and access to a car are essential

The councils support employee development and will assist with training and qualifications relevant to the role. Regular travel throughout the districts is required.
