Our Water contractor client is looking to strengthen their Planning team with a Planning Manager for their Southern Water region based out Falmer (Brighton).

You will provide services to ensure that project plans have achievable timescales and are accurately monitored and updated.
Reporting directly to the Head of Planning, your responsibilities include managing project team members to develop, monitor, progress, and report on tender and contractual programmes. This involves ensuring that both operational and commercial team members are fully briefed on critical activities and risks.
The Planning Manager will work closely with the commercial department to monitor costs, own several project plans, drive project delivery, and challenge delays and deviations. Leading, coaching, and guiding junior Planners, you'll be seen as an approachable planning expert eager to share knowledge and improve team performance.
Candidate must be able to commute to Falmer offices 2-3 days a week minimum.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the estimating team to prepare programmes from tender documentation, ensuring compliance and realism.
- Develop programmes in line with contract requirements, update, and submit them as needed.
- Assist with collaborative planning workshops.
- Lead the development of Construction phase 4D Planning.
- Maintain a baseline programme and track progress against it.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure consistent assumptions on methodology and outputs.
- Identify opportunities and risks during planning.
- Gather and distribute progress information and reasons for deviations or delays.
- Monitor scope changes and revise programmes accordingly.
- Attend progress and project meetings to present programmes.
- Attend site meetings to gather progress data.
- Report programme issues to senior management and site teams.
- Distribute regular look-ahead programmes.
- Ensure an As Built programme is available at project closeout.
- Maintain knowledge of site processes and costs.
- Record the impact of changes on site and contract programmes.
- Assist with monthly progress reports as per customer requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Senior Planning Manager, Project Manager, Commercial team, and client representatives.
- Assist with Primavera P6 planning software administration and training.
Skills, experience, and qualifications
- Experience in planning civil and M&E projects.
- Knowledge of current HSE practices and possession of a CSCS card.
- Experience working with NEC3/4 contracts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficient in Primavera P6 planning software.
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Focus on deliverables and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage workload to meet deadlines.
- Water Industry experience.
- Familiarity with contract management software such as CEMAR and Aconex.
- Competitive salary guide: circa £70-80k, dependent on experience.
