Job summary

STRABAG UK is building a dedicated Power team within the Infrastructure Division to deliver major UK energy and transmission projects. The role focuses on leading planning function, coordinating interfaces with BIM, design, estimation, commercial and construction execution teams on complex programmes.

Based in Stafford, you will manage a planning team, develop and safeguard schedules, assess risks and drive improvements to ensure on-time delivery of high-value schemes for the National Grid and

Qualifications

  • Requires CSEF mandatory skills and professional membership.
  • Degree/HND/HNC in Construction or Engineering or equivalent.
  • Advanced competence in planning software and tools.
  • Broad experience in construction with senior planning exposure.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and contractual planning processes.
  • Experience with 4D planning and risk management.
  • Management experience of a planning team.
  • Ability to analyse resource and cost loading data and present outputs.
  • Experience in tendering and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Review Employer’s Requirements, Contract Data and Works Information and highlight deficiencies.
  • Lead the Planning function and manage the Planning team on assigned projects.
  • Produce adequate and timely contract planning information for PM and client.
  • Provide programme schedules to aid project control.
  • Collate progress data to update the programme accurately.
  • Lead programme risk assessment and mitigation implementation.
  • Review quality of reports, narratives and programmes for submission.
  • Coordinate interfaces with BIM, design, estimation, commercial and construction teams.
  • Manage labour, cost and resource profiles and schedules linked to budgets.
  • Forecast potential problems and propose preventative actions.
  • Review changes and compensation events.
  • Interfacing with other functional leads and STRA- PLAN procedures.
  • Provide productivity as-built data for business development feedback.
  • Conduct regular reviews with Planning personnel to develop targets and engagement.
  • Promote information sharing and best practices across units.
  • Report data and progress to Head of Planning.

Requirements
  • Review the Employer’s Requirements, Contract Data and Works Information and associated information and highlight any deficiencies/omissions noted.
  • Responsibility for the Planning function, including the management of the Planning team, on the project(s) assigned.
  • Manage the production of adequate and timely contract planning information to the project management team and client.
  • Provide programme schedules as aids to controlling the project.
  • Collate information on the progress and status of the project to ensure the accurate updating of the programme.
  • Lead the assessment of programme risks and programme risk analysis, including development and implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Review and ensure the quality and accuracy of reports, narratives and programmes to be submitted.
  • Management and coordination of the programme to ensure interfaces of partners, supply chain and third parties are known, analysed, understood and appropriately linked.
  • Management of the production of labour, cost and resource profiles and schedules over the duration of the project based on detailed estimates and budgets and utilising forecasts to completion.
  • Forecasting potential problem areas and proposing potential solutions such that the Project Manager can initiate appropriate preventative and corrective action.
  • Review of change and compensation events.
  • Interfacing with other functional team leads including, but not limited to: BIM team, design team, estimation, commercial team and construction execution.
  • Undertake review, challenge and assurance of the programme to comply with STRA- PLAN procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide productivity as-built data accumulated from the works to allow feedback to the Business Development team and availability to the wider Planning team.
  • Undertake regular one-to-one reviews with project Planning personnel to manage development targets, staff satisfaction and engagement.
  • Encourage sharing of information and best practice and communication between Business Units.
  • Reporting of data and progress to the Head of Planning.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Required:
  • CSEF Mandatory Skills
  • Membership of Professional Institution
  • Degree/HND/HNC in Construction / Engineering or appropriate professional qualification.
  • Advanced competence in appropriate Planning software.
  • Broad experience within the appropriate construction environment.
  • Senior experience of working with a wide range of planning techniques in both tendering and contract delivery.
  • An advanced understanding of the commercial and contractual processes within the planning function.
  • Previous experience with implementing and utilising 4D planning.
  • Advanced knowledge of Safety, Environment and Risk Management.
  • Significant experience and advanced working knowledge of the contracts the business operates within.
  • Management experience of a Planning team
  • Ability to analyse and challenge the resource and cost loading data within programmes and produce outputs to clearly demonstrate this information to others.
  • Experience in Risk management.
  • Experience of tendering.
  • Leadership training
  • Experience in the use of TILOS software.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience of managing QSRA
