Salary: £95,000 + package

An exciting and career-defining opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Manager to join a leading main contractor at the forefront of delivering complex, large-scale energy infrastructure projects across the UK. With a healthy secured pipeline and ambitious growth plans, this is a pivotal leadership role within a specialist division dedicated to major energy works, including substations, grid connections, and renewable infrastructure schemes.

As Planning Manager, you will take full ownership of the planning function, leading, managing, and mentoring a growing team of 10 planners operating across tender and live project environments. This strategic position will embed you within the senior leadership team, shaping planning strategy, driving consistency, and championing best practices in project controls, reporting, and programme management across all project phases.

You will play an instrumental role in supporting the ongoing development of the planning team, providing hands-on guidance, implementing training initiatives, and contributing to resource planning and recruitment as the team expands.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead, manage, and mentor a team of planners across pre-construction and delivery phases.
  2. Oversee the preparation, review, and management of tender and live project programmes.
  3. Ensure consistent application of planning standards, controls, and governance procedures.
  4. Act as the primary planning lead for major energy infrastructure projects, attending key client and stakeholder meetings.
  5. Provide technical planning support to bid teams and operational managers.
  6. Develop and implement training and development plans for the planning team.
  7. Support recruitment and succession planning within the division.
  8. Drive innovation and continuous improvement in planning processes, reporting tools, and systems.
  9. Provide strategic planning advice to directors and operational teams, ensuring programmes are realistic, fully resourced, and aligned with project and commercial objectives.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience in a senior planning role within a main contracting or infrastructure delivery environment.
  2. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with previous experience managing planning teams.
  3. Expertise in Primavera P6 and an excellent understanding of project planning and controls principles.
  4. Background in energy, infrastructure, utilities, or heavy civil engineering projects.
  5. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate complex programme information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  6. Forward-thinking, proactive, and commercially aware with a collaborative leadership style.
Offer:
  • £95,000 per annum
  • Car allowance of £7,000 per annum or choice of a company car
  • Travel expenses
  • 28 days annual leave + bank holidays + option to purchase 5 extra days
  • Pension, Healthcare, Life Assurance, Private Medical
  • Other great benefits
