Overview

Astute’s Renewables Team is partnering with a leading renewable energy consultancy, committed to sustainability and professional development, to recruit a Planning and Environmental Consultant for its Irvine office.

The strategically important Planning and Environmental Consultant role comes with a salary of �32,000- �45,000 depending on experience, pension, excellent career development and culture.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Provide technical leadership on planning and environmental projects, ensuring feasibility, compliance, and alignment with project goals.
  • Manage planning applications, environmental assessments, budgets, and resources across multiple projects.
  • Mentor and support junior consultants, reviewing and developing their technical work.
  • Keep abreast of planning policy and environmental regulations, advocating for policies that support renewable energy.
  • Produce and review high-quality planning and environmental reports, ensuring they are client-ready.
  • Use software such as GIS, Resoft Windfarm, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop to create engaging project outputs.
  • Build strong client relationships through clear, professional, and proactive communication.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities and helping clients overcome challenges.
Professional qualifications
  • A degree in Town Planning, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or related discipline (RTPI or IEMA membership desirable).
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK planning and environmental legislation, particularly in renewable energy.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing planning applications and environmental assessments.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (GIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop).

  • A natural leader who inspires and mentors others.
  • Highly organised with excellent project management skills.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to identify client needs and business opportunities.
  • A strong communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
