Job description

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A little more about your role…

Due to continued growth across our Infrastructure, Energy and Rail portfolios, we are looking to appoint Planning Engineers to join our expanding Planning & Scheduling team within our Project, Programme and Commercial Management (PMCM) business.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team delivering planning and project controls services on some of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes. From major rail enhancements and electrification schemes to critical energy, power and utilities projects, you'll be helping clients deliver projects that support economic growth, sustainability and the UK's transition to a low-carbon future.

As a Planning Engineer, you'll work closely with project managers, engineers, commercial teams and delivery partners, helping to develop and maintain robust programmes that enable successful project delivery. You'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of clients and projects, gaining exposure to complex infrastructure challenges while building your expertise within a leading global consultancy.

We're looking for experienced professionals who can bring established planning, scheduling or project controls expertise to our growing team. You may currently be working within a consultancy, contractor, client organisation or infrastructure owner and be looking for greater project variety, exposure to nationally significant programmes and the opportunity to further develop your career.

You’ll be joining a collaborative team within PMCM, a business comprising more than 500 professionals across the UK. We are committed to investing in our people through mentoring, technical development, professional accreditation and clear career progression opportunities.

If you're passionate about delivering major infrastructure projects and want to be part of a team shaping the future of Energy and regional Rail delivery across the UK, we'd love to hear from you. Our continued growth means there has never been a better time to join WSP.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience in planning and scheduling within infrastructure, construction, Energy, or regional Rail environments.
  • Developing programmes from first principles, maintaining and analysing project schedules using industry-standard planning and scheduling software.
  • Experience working as part of an integrated project team, supporting the successful delivery of complex infrastructure or capital delivery projects.
  • Understanding of project delivery lifecycles, programme management principles and applying project controls methodologies including EVM.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret project data and produce basis of schedule and schedule narrative documents
  • Excellent client communication and stakeholder management skills, with the experience to facilitate planning workshops with multi-disciplinary/client teams.
  • Experience supporting programme reporting, change/risk management, NEC schedule assurance and project performance analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Consultancy, project construction or client-side project controls experience.
  • Professional accreditation, Chartership or progress towards professional qualification or APM.

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.

Join our close-knit community of talented individuals who share your passion for making a positive impact. Work on major Energy and regional Rail programmes, collaborate with industry-leading experts and contribute to projects that will shape the future of infrastructure across the UK.

With significant investment and growth planned across our business, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a team that values technical excellence, collaboration and innovation.
