Purpose of the Role

With new and exciting client mandates, our high-performing Planning & Infrastructure Consenting Team is looking for an infrastructure consenting-focused Managing Associate / Associate to join our London office. You'll become part of a wider national and international team of experts and will have the support and structure to develop your career.

The Group and Team
  • Located within the Real Estate Group, the Planning and Infrastructure Consenting Team works across London, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, comprising 15 lawyers (including 6 Partners), plus paralegals and trainees.
  • The work is of excellent quality, varied, and involves providing comprehensive advice on planning issues, especially in energy and transport, housing, and urban regeneration.
  • The team has seen growth in infrastructure consenting work, advising on high-profile projects in energy (electricity transmission, solar, battery storage, gas) and transport (ports, airports, rail).
  • The firm has a strong sectoral focus in Transport and Energy, leading policy development and working collaboratively on high-value mandates.
What to Expect in This Role
  • Work on a variety of infrastructure projects, including:
  • Advising on Development Consent Orders, Transport and Works Act Orders, harbour orders, marine licenses, and approvals.
  • Providing strategic advice, reviewing application documents, drafting legislation, supporting inquiries, and advising on land strategies and legal issues.
  • Work closely with senior lawyers, with significant responsibilities.
Knowledge and Expertise
  • Senior lawyer with at least 4 years of relevant experience in infrastructure consenting.
  • Aptitude for understanding political contexts and legislative changes.
  • Enthusiasm for Transport and Energy sectors and their role in climate change efforts.
  • Confident stakeholder management skills.
  • Thorough, consultative approach, efficient time management, and strong drafting skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and a desire for continuous learning.
  • Ability to develop client relationships and act as a trusted adviser.
