The role involves leading the strategic development of Cundall’s Town Planning activities in Scotland, managing successful delivery of innovative planning solutions for prestigious and challenging projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a team and support Cundall’s UK Director of Planning in growing this important specialism within the practice.
The role will involve taking over from our current Head of Planning (Scotland), who has built a strong reputation as a trusted adviser. The predecessor will remain available in an advisory capacity. This position may suit someone currently at Associate or Associate Director level seeking more independence to grow their team within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment. This is part of a planned succession strategy to strengthen our town planning advice service in Edinburgh and the central belt area.
With offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, there is flexibility to work from either location or share time between both.
In this role, you will work across sectors including education, residential, commercial, healthcare, and retail. Your responsibilities will include preparing planning appraisals, developing creative solutions, and managing projects in collaboration with engineering colleagues. You will lead on planning, regeneration, and master planning commissions, while nurturing client relationships to maximize satisfaction and repeat business.
You will leverage your expertise and leadership skills to motivate and develop a team of skilled Planners, supporting Cundall’s growth and reputation in town planning.
We seek a highly experienced planner or surveyor with a strong understanding of statutory planning policies and procedures, qualified to MRTPI, MRICS, or equivalent. You should have a significant portfolio demonstrating technical and leadership experience within a consultancy or public sector. Your recent roles should reflect a reputation as a commercially aware leader in town planning, with a proven ability to manage multiple large projects and teams successfully.
You will contribute to wider corporate initiatives in Scotland and the UK, with a commitment to technical excellence and net-zero development approaches. Excellent communication and project management skills are essential, given the collaborative and client-focused nature of this role.
Salary and terms are negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience.
