Job summary

Belfast City Council is seeking a Planning Assistant on a temporary basis to support the Planning Service. The role involves assisting with live applications, site visits across Belfast and handling inquiries from the public.

No prior experience is required, making it ideal for a planning student starting their career. You will work closely with planning officers, gain hands-on experience, and develop essential skills in a busy city planning environment.

Qualifications

• Studying for a relevant third-level qualification such as Planning and Property Development.
• A full driving licence valid in Northern Ireland and access to a car for site visits.
• Good IT skills and attention to detail, with interest in planning.

Responsibilities

• Process planning applications and cases with potential breaches.
• Assist with reports, recommendations and be guided by the Senior Planning Officer.
• Answer planning enquiries in person, by phone and email.
• Carry out site visits across Belfast to record site information.
• Research planning histories and other planning matters.
• Support validation, consultation and publicity for Belfast's development plans.
