Responsibilities

As a Senior Town Planner, you will:

  • Lead and manage planning applications, appeals, and development proposals across a variety of sectors.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to clients, stakeholders, and colleagues on planning policies, regulations, and strategies.
  • Conduct site appraisals, feasibility studies, and environmental assessments to support project development.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality planning reports, statements, and documentation.
  • Represent the company at public consultations, planning committees, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Stay updated on changes in planning legislation and policy to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or eligibility to achieve this status.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a planning role, preferably within a consultancy or local authority setting.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset with a keen eye for detail.
  • A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel as required.


Day-to-Day

Your typical day as a Senior Town Planner will involve:

  • Collaborating with clients and stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Conducting site visits and assessments to gather critical information for planning applications.
  • Preparing detailed planning submissions and liaising with local authorities to secure approvals.
  • Attending meetings with clients, project teams, and external consultants to discuss project progress and strategies.
  • Reviewing and interpreting planning policies to provide informed advice and recommendations.
  • Supporting the team in business development activities, including preparing proposals and attending networking events.
