Job summary

STRABAG is seeking a proactive Planner to support project start-up through close-out on a Manchester site. You will review critical information, develop and maintain detailed schedules, and coordinate with design, estimation and construction execution teams to minimise risks and delays.

The role requires experience in tendering and contract delivery, strong command of planning software, and a good grasp of BIM/4D planning. Office-based in the UK with site visits as required.

Qualifications

  • CSEF Mandatory Skills.
  • Pre-construction planning experience (design, consents & other project management documentation).
  • Membership or Professional Institution.
  • Degree/HND/HNC in Construction / Engineering or appropriate professional qualification.
  • Competence in appropriate Planning software.
  • Active experience of planning techniques in tendering and contract delivery.
  • Understanding of commercial and contractual processes within planning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft packages, BIM and 4D planning.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and contribute to project start-up/close/mid meetings.
  • Undertake site visits to review site progress.
  • Review Employer’s Requirements, Contract Data and Works Information and highlight deficiencies.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering, procurement and construction schedules.
  • Contribute to risk analysis and mitigation measures for the programme.
  • Progress monitoring and updating the construction programme and forecasts.
  • Produce reports and programme narratives for project reporting.
  • Develop resource histograms for prelims, labour, materials and plant requirements.
  • Prepare short-term programmes with the project team.
  • Include cost data into the programme and cash flow forecasts.
  • Advise on delays to the critical path and potential impact.
  • Produce phasing diagrams, narratives or presentations.
  • Coordinate designers and suppliers’ works into the programme.
  • Develop change event programme with Commercial and Project teams.
  • Monitor productivity trends for forecasting.
  • Interface with BIM, design, estimation and construction execution teams.
  • Ensure compliance with STRA-PLAN procedures.
  • Provide productivity as-built data to BP and Planning teams.
  • Encourage information sharing and best practice between BUs.
  • Report data and progress to the Planning Manager.

Job description

Tasks
  • Attend and contribute to project start-up/close/mid meetings.
  • Undertake site visits to review site progress.
  • Review the Employer’s Requirements, Contract Data and Works Information and associated information and highlight any deficiencies/omissions noted.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering, procurement and construction schedules including monitoring and analysis of critical path and project float.
  • Contribute to assessment of programme risks and programme risk analysis, including development and implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Progress monitoring and regular updating of the construction programme, including forecasting of potential problem areas and proposing mitigation measures to the senior planning team/Project Manager.
  • Produce reports and programme narratives to the defined project reporting requirements.
  • Produce programmes, reports and / or extract filters as required by the project team, including indication of deviation from the baseline programme.
  • Develop resource histograms to demonstrate project prelims, labour, materials and plant requirements as required.
  • Preparing short‑term programmes in conjunction with the project team.
  • Include cost data into the programme and produce cash flow forecasts.
  • Provide advice to the project team of when it is likely that there will be delays to the critical path and the potential impact this will result in.
  • Production of phasing diagrams, narratives or presentations to demonstrate strategy and sequence as required.
  • Coordinate designers and other supplier’s works and integrate into the project programme.
  • In conjunction with Commercial and Project teams develop the programme for change events.
  • Monitor productivity to determine trends and to assist in forecasting.
  • Interfacing with other functional teams including, but not limited to: BIM team, design team, estimation and construction execution.
  • Compliance with the STRA-PLAN procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide productivity as‑built data accumulated from the works to allow feedback to the Business Development team and availability to the wider Planning team.
  • Encourage sharing of information and best practice and communication between Business Units.
  • Reporting of data and progress to the Planning Manager.

  • Degree/HND/HNC in Construction / Engineering or appropriate professional qualification.
  • Competence in appropriate Planning software.
  • Active experience of working with a wide range of planning techniques in both tendering and contract delivery.
  • A clear understanding of working knowledge of the commercial and contractual processes within the planning function.
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, along with an understanding of the benefits of the use of BIM and 4D planning.
