Job summary

Busnes@LlandrilloMenai is seeking an Assessor to deliver training, assessment and, where appropriate, verification of learners’ work in Llangefni. You will be allocated a group of learners and monitor their progress, working with the Deputy Manager and Curriculum Coordinator to ensure timely completion of qualifications.

The role includes maintaining documentation, promoting courses, delivering sessions to groups, and supporting learners in workplace and on-site college settings.

Job description

The Assessor is responsible for delivery of training, assessment and where appropriate verification of learners’ work.

They will be allocated a group of learners, and is expected to monitor the progress of each learner and work alongside the Deputy Manager, Curriculum Coordinator, Sector Engagement Coordinator for Health and Wellbeing, the relevant Team Leader and the Internal Verifier to ensure the satisfactory completion of training and the attainment of the qualification pursued.

It is essential to the role that the assessor ensures the accurate and timely completion and submission of all appropriate documentation. The assessor should also ensure that he/she reflects the mission, values and aims of the Grŵp.

The assessor will be representing the Children’s Development and Education team and will be expected to promote the courses offered, to encourage recruitment. The role will require delivering sessions to whole groups, preparing them for placement.

The assessor role has many facets which include maintaining a caseload of full time Further Education learners, supporting the learners to develop an understanding of the underpinning knowledge relating to the industry and also working alongside the employer to ensure that each learner receives opportunities to develop the skills required to demonstrate competency to meet and exceed the requirements of their qualification. Assessors are expected to utilise excellent time management skills to plan visits to settings to carry out observations and to provide support to the learner and also sometimes to the employer to ensure successful completion of the work placement aspects of the qualification.

It is important to be able to empower learners to be in control of their own learning which includes supporting them to plan for assessments and recognise their own development needs and be responsible for their own professional development. Effective communication skills are essential for this role as assessors liaise with a range of other staff who support the learner. Effective communication ensures that the learners complete and achieve their qualification within the tight timeframe we have. While the majority of the role will be supporting learners in the workplace there is an expectation that the assessor will also support skill development on site in the college facilities in Llangefni. This involves working with learners to develop skills required for their level of course through demonstration, one to one and small group support and observation.
