Liberty Wines, the exclusive distributor for Piper-Heidsieck in the UK and Ireland, is seeking a commercially driven and strategic Business Development Manager to drive continued growth in Piper-Heidsieck sales and distribution across key channels.

The role will work closely with the Liberty Wines sales team to open new accounts and support the success of existing listings and collaborate with the Piper-Heidsieck Brand Manager to develop and implement a brand plan that increases the recognition and strength of Piper-Heidsieck with customers and consumers.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Work with Liberty Wines UK and Ireland sales teams and our customers/prospects to achieve commercial targets and secure new business for Piper-Heidsieck
  • Manage Piper-Heidsieck commercial development plans for both the on-trade and independent off-trade channels, including customer investment plans, target customer lists, incentives/promotions etc.
  • Lead prospect meetings and tastings and build bespoke commercial proposals for customers, in line with agreed price support and marketing budgets
  • Work proactively with colleagues to identify and win opportunities to secure business for other Liberty Wines Champagne agencies.
  • Support the success of ongoing listings through organising/hosting customer training, events, tastings and trips with the support of the Marketing Coordinators

Trade Marketing and Events

  • Work with the Piper-Heidsieck Brand Manager to inform the content of and successfully implement the Piper-Heidsieck brand plan and budget
  • Work with the Piper-Heidsieck Brand Manager to plan the successful launch (events, communications, etc.) of new products/vintages
  • Support the delivery of the brand plan at Piper-Heidsieck partnerships, events, tastings, trips, etc.
  • Support Champagne team at Liberty Wines events (portfolio tastings/roadshows)
  • Work with the Marketing Coordinators and Brand Manager to manage customer point of sales requests

Reporting

Prepare customer performance and market activity reports as required

About you

  • Proven success in wine or spirit sales, business development or equivalent role (minimum 2 years)
  • Strong understanding of and proven ability to develop relationships in the premium on-trade and independent off-trade channels. Knowledge/experience of the national off-trade an advantage.
  • Goal orientated, commercially astute, a strong sense of initiative, and a team player
  • Excellent wine knowledge, particularly Champagne (WSET Level 3 or above strongly preferred)
  • A clear and compelling communicator (both verbal and written with knowledge of Microsoft Word/Powerpoint)
  • Fluent in English, French language skills an advantage
  • Highly numerate - able to build and tailor commercial proposals and plans using Microsoft Excel
  • Able to work at pace and balance multiple priorities while retaining excellent attention to detail
