Welder Job Description

Minimum of 6 months documented field experience in the chosen craft discipline. Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. Responsibilities and requirements vary depending on experience and assignment. Helpers assist in these activities.

Compensation: $33 per hour + $75 per day per diem

Location: New Castle, DE

Journeyman Welder Responsibilities
  1. Selects type and size of pipe or related materials according to specifications.
  2. Plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, weld shrinkage, and techniques.
  3. Uses Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
  4. Sets up, positions, aligns, and fits components in various positions.
  5. Welds metal components such as piping systems, plates, pipes, tubes, or structural shapes using arc welding equipment, in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  6. Connects cables, adjusts settings, and operates welding equipment as per procedures or supervisor instructions.
  7. Prepares and maintains welds, including cleaning, repairing, and removing excess material.
  8. Inspects welds for quality and specifications.
  9. Loads, transports, and unloads materials and tools.
  10. Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
  11. Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
  12. Supports other mechanics as needed.
  13. Follows safety protocols and performs duties in compliance with project rules.
Job Requirements
  • Work within precise standards of accuracy.
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Apply basic mathematics and visualize objects from plans.
  • Plan work and select proper tools.
Physical Demands

Regular talking and hearing; frequent use of hands; occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with relevant experience. Knowledge of field concepts and procedures. Works under supervision, following instructions and guidelines. No independent judgment required.
