Pipe Fitters, Sheet Metal Workers or Plate Fabricators - Military and Defence Sector

Southampton Area - Permanent - Attractive + Shift Allowance and Paid Overtime (If Applicable)

Multiple Pipe Fitters, Sheet Metal Workers or Plate Fabricators are required for an international Defence and Weapons Systems Company that is expanding their team. Flexible working arrangements are available for these positions, and they come with Paid Overtime and a Shift Allowance if Shifts are Required.

The Pipe Fitters, Sheet Metal Workers or Plate Fabricators will be part of the Fitting Teams and will report to a Team Leader. They will be involved in the Fitting, Maintenance and Testing of Pipes, Structures and Equipment on Large Military and Defence Platforms.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pipe Fitter

1. Ensure safe systems of work are conducted
2. Read/Interpret Mechanical/Pipe Drawings
3. Pipe fabrication in different types of materials
4. Braze both silver and soft solder to class 1 standards
5. Evaluate pipework on completion of manufacture
6. Install pipework into various systems

Sheet Metal Worker and Plater Fabricator

1. Understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
2. Have all the basic hand skills, i.e., burning & chamfering of various gauges and types of plate.
3. Experienced in the use of Guillotines, rolling machines, drilling machines, folding machines.
4. Tack welding (Training/Qualification can be provided).
5. Accurate marking off using measuring tools, being familiar with the use of straight edges.
6. Use of Spirit levels, set squares, chalk/string lines, plumb bobs, etc.
7. Ability to accurately mark out sheet plate/extrusions.
8. Correct use of grinders and associated consumables whilst adhering to the HAVS regulations.
9. Bending and forming of various gauges and types of plate.
10. Understanding of Q.C inspection or process experience.
11. Ensure all tools and equipment that are used are suitable, fit for purpose and in date for any inspection required.
12. Report all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool.
13. Experience in fabrication using different materials.
14. Be competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment.

Key Skills/Experience/Quals Required

1. Must have completed an NVQ 3 level qualification or apprenticeship.
2. Oil and Gas, Marine, Heavy Industry, Rolling Stock is desirable but will look at most trades.
3. Able to and knowledge of working in confined spaces & working at height.
4. Marine or offshore experience is an advantage.
