The role
As a Pipe Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. These are exciting opportunities to support the Submarine programmes here at Babcock. This could see you working on warships, submarines or within our factories supporting delivering these complex engineering projects.

Day-to-day, you’ll work on a variety of different pipe systems whether that be on ships, submarines or in the factory. This includes both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  • Documenting and reporting Dimension Control, Traceability and Quality standards
  • Determining job requirements and planning/configuring equipment materials
  • Installations, inspections, diagnosing problems/faults/leaks, testing, repair and maintenance of various pipe systems
  • Fabrication, Pipe bending, Welding, pipe fitting on site (on board ship) Manual Handling, Housekeeping
  • Identify hazards, problems, defects and the need for replacement, adjustment or repair; to ensure compliance with agreed codes, law, working practices and health and safety

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Pipe Fitter

  • Experience of working within high performing engineering teams focused on delivering engineering projects
  • Ability to manufacture ferrous and nonferrous pipework, installation of systems and pipework testing
  • Time served apprentice within the field of Marine Engineering / Naval Engineering / Industrial Plumbing Environment
  • Awareness of pressure systems

Qualifications for the Pipe Fitter

  • Apprenticeship or Level 3 Mechanical qualification
