We have an exciting new role available for an experienced PIP 1 Investigator to work for Thames Valley Police in the Assessment and Investigation Unit (AIU) at their Slough Police Station.

This is a temporary role working Monday - Thursday: 08:00-16:00, Friday: 08:00-15:30, and will be office based.

The overall purpose of the role is to: manage and progress the investigation of criminal offences and other incidents/enquiries, working as an integral part of a mixed team of Police Officers and staff; complete investigative actions, prepare case papers ensuring file completeness and timely delivery in accordance with Court deadlines.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS
  1. Plan, coordinate, and undertake investigations as tasked, utilizing all appropriate techniques and technologies to detect and reduce crime, bringing offenders to justice. Support the wider investigative team by providing resilience and supporting quick investigations as needed. Record and maintain investigative actions via NICHE to ensure accuracy, scrutiny, timely completion, and adherence to the Victims Code.
  2. Plan and conduct interviews of suspects and witnesses to identify further investigative opportunities and obtain the best evidence.
  3. Prioritize, analyze, and interpret intelligence/evidence on scene, using forensic techniques to optimize detection opportunities. Seize exhibits following current guidelines and policies. Record and store intelligence promptly and accurately to maintain continuity and evidential integrity.
  4. Provide a victim-centered service by visiting, assessing, and supporting victims to ensure investigations are concluded promptly in line with the Victims Code. Maintain support throughout the investigation and prosecution process. Manage caseloads and keep accurate records within NICHE, ensuring compliance with victim and witness protocols.
  5. Create prosecution files that are evidentially sound and compliant with CPS requirements within set timescales. Promote high-quality investigation and file management, providing feedback for continual improvement.
  6. Ensure timely processing of digital evidence (e.g., mobile devices, CCTV) to meet court standards. Comply with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act to meet disclosure requirements.
  7. Attend court hearings as required to give evidence, support victims and witnesses, and ensure evidence and exhibits are available.
  8. Be vigilant to safeguarding issues during public interactions. Make referrals to MASH when appropriate and escalate urgent concerns. Stay updated with vulnerability training.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Good secondary education, including English and Maths to GCSE level or equivalent. Excellent verbal and written English, with good numeracy skills.
  • Willingness and ability to achieve PIP 1 accreditation.
  • Strong communication skills, including listening and questioning, with the ability to engage empathetically with diverse communities, sometimes in confrontational situations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, logical thinking, and effective information gathering and recording skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information and assess risks and vulnerabilities to set priorities.
  • Experience working in a team, with good organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and working under pressure.
  • Good IT skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new systems for data analysis and investigation management.
  • Full UK driving license is essential due to travel requirements across different locations.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and shifts as required, with the ability to undertake limited physical Personal Safety Training for deployment to incidents and outdoor environments.
