Darwin Recruitment seeks a PIC Design Engineer to join an advanced photonics R&D team in the UK, developing next‑generation III‑V and hybrid integrated photonic devices.

You will design PICs and III‑V optoelectronic devices, create mask layouts with KLayout/Nazca, develop PDKs and design rules, and use Python to automate workflows while collaborating with fabrication and testing teams to move concepts from research through to production.

Qualifications

• PhD in semiconductor devices, photonics or related field.
• Strong understanding of waveguides, modulators, detectors and passive devices.
• Hands-on mask layout/design experience.
• Strong Python skills.
• Experience with III-V photonics is highly desirable.
• Ideally 3+ years' experience in photonics R&D, industry or academia.
• PDK development, optical communications or semiconductor fabrication experience is a plus.

PIC Design Engineer

Location: UK | Full-time

We're looking for a PIC Design Engineer to join an advanced photonics R&D team developing next-generation III-V and hybrid integrated photonic devices.

You’ll work across PIC design, mask layout, device development and fabrication, collaborating closely with design, fabrication and testing teams to take concepts from research through to production.
