Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our outpatient physiotherapy team as a Band 4 Therapy Assistant.

The post involves supporting qualified physiotherapists in group exercise classes and seeing patients for individual exercises in our gyms following referrals from physiotherapists.

You should have experience and understanding of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, sports rehabilitation, or exercise classes, and be eager to develop these skills as a Therapy Assistant.

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the department through non-patient-facing tasks, requiring excellent organisational and administrative skills.

This role offers the chance to work with qualified physiotherapists and gain experience rehabilitating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. The department values continuing education and training, and previous postholders have used this experience to secure places in physiotherapy undergraduate courses.

Please note, this post is not suitable for those who already hold or are awaiting a physiotherapy qualification.

Candidates using AI in their applications may be rejected. Shortlisted candidates will need to complete an online written test before progressing to a face-to-face interview.

Additional responsibilities include organizing appointments, maintaining a safe, clean, and tidy department, managing clinical stock and equipment, and recording patient statistics from exercise classes.

Key duties include:
  1. Working with musculoskeletal patients of various ages and backgrounds, some new to exercise.
  2. Supporting group-based rehabilitation under physiotherapist guidance.
  3. Running exercise classes such as osteoarthritis knee, and upper/lower limb rehab.
  4. Performing delegated 1:1 exercises in the gym independently or with a physiotherapist.
  5. Adapting, modifying, progressing, and evaluating prescribed exercises.
  6. Recording clinical data on electronic systems.
  7. Prescribing walking aids and simple splints.
  8. Supporting admin tasks like booking groups and collecting outcome measures.
  9. Maintaining clinical equipment and stock levels.
  10. Ensuring the department is presentable and tidy.
  11. Completing the Homerton support staff care certificate.
